I was born in North Carolina and much of my family still lives there. Even though my family moved around, I grew up living mostly in St. Louis. There I began swimming, diving, gymnastics and tennis. In the 9th grade I started to concentrate on diving and continued diving throughout college at the University of Missouri. I was a  3 time finalist at the Big Eight Championships and co-captain my senior year. I graduated in 1990 with a degree in Psychology and Business Management and in 1992 I married my college sweetheart.

After college I worked in retail management and sales until I had my first child, Alec, in 1997. Then I started my fitness career teaching water aerobics, which grew to personal training after my daughter was born.
